From an objective point of view, on the other hand, PT is only a teaser and it fully succeeds in its one and true intent: to strike, to arouse interest, to disturb and entertain in order to present a much larger project. PT is a short but intense “walk” in an incredibly engaging but obviously and necessarily limited home and universe.

For an incredible series of factors (being linked to names like Del Toro, Kojima and Silent Hill in the first place) this sort of demo has become a real cult object praised as a masterpiece from every point of view. Layers of Fear + >observer_ Bundleīefore talking in detail about Layers of Fear, it’s worth taking a pebble off your shoe: I don’t consider PT an experience of absolute quality, much less something capable of revolutionizing the horror genre. What on earth is that ominous painting all about? Who draws something so horrible and leaves it lying around on a notepad in his office? Did it just get darker all of a sudden? From the very first minute, Layers of Fear feels like its own game whether you’re familiar with recent genre touchstones or not. The slow-burning sense of dread is certainly reminiscent of P.T, but the devices to achieve it are frequently proprietary. Foreboding black spatters in front of locked doors, noises upstairs, surreal portraits and strange notes finished with horrific illustrations allude to a broken home, and the broken minds that dwell within. Enter through the front doors however and it’s clear something has gone wrong. A minimal text intro outlining key themes of loss and redemption gives way to the benign environment of a warmly lit family home. Layers of Fear is one such game, but despite its obvious position in the time and place of the industry, it’s unfair to view this game as either a tribute or a derivative. Fortunately for them developers don’t live in a vacuum, and there’s been a surge of what could be unkindly termed ‘imitators’ aiming to emulate the success of the pleasingly terrifying ordeal of that ‘Playable Teaser’. PT was intended as a demonstration of what was possible under this creative duo, and it left fans and newcomers alike wanting more. Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro had big plans for the beloved but notoriously diminished IP, until relationships with Konami sadly entered freefall. The demise of the Silent Hills project is still a sore point for fans of the franchise, particularly for those who played the PT demo. Layers of Fear is one such game, and it’s a damn effective one at that. is in fact most relevant to discuss when considering horror’s current evolution, as its clever manipulation of perspective and disorientating world shifts are the backbone of a new breed of psychological horror-led games that play tricks with the player. The game's sound aspect is also at a high level - the narrator is played by Tony Todd, known from iconic horror movies. The resurgence of horror as a videogame genre has been predominantly down to indie developers simplifying the process and taking horror back to the basics whilst using the strength of interactivity to play on players fears in more cerebral ways instead of chucking body parts at them, something the mainstream looked to have finally harnessed with games like Alien Isolation and the now infamous P.T.

Layers of Fear 2 has three-dimensional graphics of decent quality.

Besides, the game does not lack logical and environmental puzzles and arcade elements. The gameplay consists primarily of walking around the ship's deck and observing the paranormal phenomena taking place on it, as well as gradually discovering the history of the protagonist, by reading notes scattered around the locations or listening to the hero's memories. The action in Layers of Fear 2 is presented from the first person perspective (FPP). The mansion know from the first game was replaced with a ship sailing on an open sea. This time, however, we are not talking about a picture, but about a movie.

In Layers of Fear 2 players once again play as the artist whose aim is to complete his masterpiece. The title was initially known as Project Melies, a reference to the name of one of the cinema's pioneers, Georges Mélies. The production was developed by Bloober Team, the authors of the original.

Layers of Fear 2 is a continuation of a horror adventure game from 2016.
